C. Michael Hawn: Andrews University Music & Worship Conference (Friday Morning)

Description

C. Michael Hawn is the University Distinguished Professor of Church Music and Director of the Master of Sacred Music Program at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology. He is an award-winning teacher, lecturer, researcher and author. His research and writing focuses on worship and music, worship and culture, global music and worship, cross-cultural worship and enlivening congregational song. Hawn received a B.M.E. from Wheaton College (1970), a M.C.M. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1972) and a D.M.A. from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1975). Hawn has has authored and edited numerous articles and books, including New Songs of Celebration Render: Congregational Singing in the Twenty-First Century (Chicago: GIA Publications, Inc., 2013), Gather into One: Praying and Singing Globally (Grand Rapids: Wm. B. Eerdmans, 2003), One Bread, One Body: Exploring Cultural Diversity in Worship (Bethesda, MD: The Alban Institute, 2003) and Halle, Halle: We Sing the World Round (Garland, TX: Choristers Guild, 1999). And he contributed 25 articles on global hymnody with a focus on sub-Saharan African hymns to the Canterbury Dictionary of Hymnology (Norwich, UK: Canterbury Press, 2013).
