In the Seventh-day Adventist church, local elders preach more sermons, visit more members, and give more personal counsel than do pastors. It is doubtful the church could function without them. This handbook has been prepared to help these leaders understand their calling and leadership role and to assist them in their pastoral and nurturing functions. In some parts of the world, small churches not having anyone to act as elder choose "church leader" instead. This handbook is for them also.
