Office of Adventist Mission | Adventist Volunteer Network

From the very beginning of Adventism, missions have played a large role in the life and ministry of the church. In fact, many argue that the health of a church is directly tied to its interest in, and support for missions.

A preoccupation with internal issues and ministries can sap a church's spirit and prevent it from being interested in people and needs beyond its borders. When this occurs it's only a matter of time before the church loses sight of its mission to carry the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Churches can raise the level of awareness for missions by implementing some of the following ideas:

1. Select a Missions Leader to help foster local and world mission awareness.

2. Provide your Missions Leader with vehicles or tools (newsletter, bulletin inserts, up-front announcements) to keep your congregation appraised of what's happening in the area of missions.

3. Consider adopting a church in a needy part of the world.

4. Research specific needs in various parts of the world and consider making one or more of these a church project.

5. Encourage members to pray for specific people and/or needs in other parts of the world.
